Speech Sounds

Children who have difficulty with speech sounds may be hard to understand or may leave out or substitute certain sounds. This can affect confidence, friendships, and school participation.

At Super Speech HQ we:

  • Assess your child’s speech to identify specific sound errors or phonological patterns
  • Provide targeted therapy using research-backed approaches
  • Use play, storytelling, and games to keep practice motivating and meaningful
  • Provide you with training to be their at-home superhero sidekick, giving them effective feedback and helping to guide their home practice (let’s be honest, the hours they spend with you far outweigh their time in therapy and we want to empower you to make the most of it!)
  • These skills are practised in real contexts - at home, in classrooms, or during daily routines so children can use what they learn straight away.

Goal: clearer speech, improved confidence, and communication that family, teachers, and friends can easily understand.

Language and Literacy

Language skills are the foundation for learning. When children struggle with vocabulary, grammar, or understanding instructions, it can impact both daily communication and academic success.

At Super Speech HQ we support:

  • Vocabulary growth and sentence development
  • Understanding and use of grammar
  • Narrative skills for telling stories and recounting experiences
  • Early literacy foundations including phonological awareness, blending and segmenting, and sound-letter knowledge
  • Provide you and/or teachers with training to be their superhero sidekick(s), giving them effective feedback and helping to guide their home practice. Strategies are provided to parents/teachers, as appropriate, to best support your child’s current communication and their future development.
  • These skills are practised in real contexts - at home, in classrooms, or during daily routines so children can use what they learn straight away.

Therapy sessions weave these skills into play, conversations, and interactive tasks that keep children engaged.

Goal: stronger comprehension, more confident expression, and the tools to thrive in school and beyond.

Social Communication

Some children find it hard to join conversations, take turns, or read non-verbal cues. This can make it tricky to connect with peers and build friendships.

At Super Speech HQ we focus on:

  • Identifying the areas within social communication that are most challenging for your child, as well as the areas they’re strongest in; we then build them a custom training plan to support skill develop and capitalise on their superpowers. Skills make include:
    • Turn taking and topic maintenance
    • Asking and answering meaningful questions
    • Understanding facial expressions, tone of voice, and body language
    • Building confidence in group interactions and classroom participation
    • These skills are practised in real contexts - at home, in classrooms, or during daily routines so children can use what they learn straight away.

Sessions are playful and practical, often using role play, games, and real-life scenarios so children can apply these skills outside the therapy room.

Goal: confident communication that helps children build friendships, connect with others, and feel understood.

fluency practice

Fluency (Stuttering)

Some children experience moments where their speech gets “stuck” or feels bumpy. This can show up as repetitions, prolongations, or blocks in their speech. For many children, stuttering comes and goes, and it can impact how confident they feel when speaking to others.

At Super Speech HQ we:
 • Assess your child’s fluency using standardised tools and real-world conversation samples
 • Provide therapy based on evidence-backed programs such as the Lidcombe Program
 • Involve parents directly in therapy when appropriate, so you feel confident supporting your child at home and reinforcing skills between sessions
 • Use fun, playful activities that keep children engaged while practising smoother speech
 • Incorporate real-life communication opportunities so children can build confidence in everyday interactions

Sessions are designed to support both fluency and overall communication confidence, helping children navigate tricky speaking moments with resilience.

Goal: smoother, more confident speech, with strategies that help children participate fully at home, at school, and with friends.
